Superferry carries 125,000th passenger (Honolulu Advertiser)

Calvin Poouahi, of Wailuku, traveled on the ferry Alakai from Maui to O’ahu.

Poouahi who was traveling by his wife Yolanda and two children, Isaac and Jazmine, was notified for the time of the voyage that he was the 125,000th passenger.

“Today is a especial promised time for our company as we have reached a significant milestone for our service. One hundred and twenty-five thousand passengers…and counting…have sailed on from one to another 400 Hawaii Superferry voyages,” said Hawaii Superferry President and CEO Tom Fargo.

“We gratulate and thank Calvin and his family for voyaging with us and representing one important milestone for the people and businesses of Hawai’i. The Poouahis are representative of the many families that have traveled unitedly over a busy and active summer,” Fargo said in a news set at liberty.

The Poouahi household was traveling on Hawaii Superferry to take part with move their daughter Jazmine to O’ahu to attend the University of Hawai’i at Manoa. As the 125,000th passenger, they received a year’s worth of trips - one round-trip voyage per month for the family of four more a vehicle - on Hawaii Superferry, according to the news release.

In addition to a recognition ceremony on board, during which the Poouahi family received a gift basket of Hawaii Superferry logo items and other goods advantageous at the on-board gift shop - The Calabash - the voyage was celebrated with each passenger receiving a limited issue T-shirt commemorating the milestone passage by sea.

Hawaii Superferry’s ship, the Alakai, seats up to 800 passengers and carries approximately 200 vehicles. The company operates a daily round-trip morning voyage between O’ahu and Maui and a round-trip afternoon voyage between O’ahu and Maui four days a week.
